Nearly 25,000 homes in south-east Queensland woke up without power on Monday's dawn after intense storm systems passed over the area, producing powerful gusts hitting 109km/h.

Massive Ice Stones and Widespread Destruction

Homeowners reported substantial frozen pellets as large as 7 centimeters in particular locations. Meteorological experts confirmed that multiple regions across Queensland had been affected by substantial ice precipitation.

At one point on Sunday, in excess of 28k power users in Victoria were experiencing outages.

Climate Outlook

Damp conditions were predicted to continue along much of eastern Queensland this week as a low-pressure trough continued to draw in moisture against the coastal areas.

The following day was predicted as the wettest day, with continued severe weather risk expected across different parts of both states.

Safety Concern

Public health experts warned that there was an greater possibility of weather-related respiratory issues across the state's northern country region, specifically given the existing atmospheric conditions.

This warning comes after past events where similar conditions led to significant health impacts in the region.
