The Actress States Speaking About Trump Would ‘Add Fuel to a Fire’ Tearing the Country Apart
Jennifer Lawrence has declared that she believes it's no longer fitting to voice opinions countering the Trump administration, concerned it could worsen divisive discussions and deepen rifts throughout the country.
‘I Question the Usefulness’, Says the Actress
Speaking with media, she shared, “When Trump was first in office, I believed I was running around in a panicked state. But as we’ve learned, over multiple voting cycles, public figures have no real impact whatsoever on who people vote for.”
The actor went on, “Why continue? I’m just voicing my thoughts on a matter that’s going to worsen tensions that’s ripping the country apart.”
Changing Allegiances
The actress has admitted freely about supporting Republican and Democratic presidential nominees over the years. Growing up with Republican parents in her home state, she voted for John McCain in the 2008 election before joining the left-leaning politics and explaining she recognized during the Obama era that backing conservatives was undermining her own rights as a woman.
Past Statements
Several years ago, she remarked that Donald Trump’s election might signal “a catastrophic event” and endorsed the Democratic candidate in the 2020 election. In the latest campaign, she gave her endorsement to Vice President Harris, “since I feel she’s a strong contender and I know that she will take all necessary steps to protect reproductive rights.”
Hollywood’s Stance
Lawrence was supported by numerous celebrities in her opposition to Trump as a candidate for re-election, but the limited influence celebrities have over the public choices was highlighted by Trump’s victory.
“The second term seems distinct,” commented she about his administration. “As he made his plans clear. We understood his record for four years. He was explicit. And voters made that decision.”
New Release
The actor is discussing her new film, Lynne Ramsay’s project in which she stars as a recent parent who struggles with her emotional state in a remote area. At a interview session for the film in Venice, the star commented on the situation in the Middle East: “I feel fear. It’s devastating. What’s happening is equivalent to a genocide and it’s horrible.”
Additional Thoughts
She continued by expressing that she was disappointed by “the disrespect in the discourse of the political landscape at present and how that is going to be accepted to the younger generation now. It’s going to be normal to them that elected officials deceive.”
She aimed to shift frustration about the situation to policymakers rather than entertainers. “Concentrate on who is responsible,” she advised, which was interpreted as a reference to the recent commitment supported by thousands of Hollywood professionals to refuse engagement with specific industry bodies.
Relatable Experiences
The actor, who received an Academy Award early in her career for her role in Silver Linings Playbook, is attracting awards attention for her performance in her latest project. Even though Ramsay has disputed the plot being understood as one of post-birth struggles and mental illness, she revealed that she identified with aspects of her role’s experience after the arrival of her second son, shortly after shooting ended.
“It was fear about my child,” she said, “envisioning every worst-case scenario, and then second-guessing everything that I was attempting. I was seeing a therapist, but I got on a treatment called Zurzuvae and I continued it for a short period and it was effective.”
Professional Experiences
Lawrence also discussed about the empowering aspect of completing nude scenes in the project while she was some months pregnant and couldn’t work out.
“There’s a freedom,” she remarked, regarding the need to set aside self-consciousness. “Honestly, I occasionally wonder where I’m like, What separates me between myself and a sex worker? But it doesn’t keep me up at night.”
