Passenger services have resumed at Edinburgh Airport following a significant air traffic control outage grounded all flights.

Every arrival and departure were halted after an technical fault that arose around 08:30.

Several flyers reported being stuck in jets at the stand while the issue persisted.

Flights Resume with Residual Impact

The airport confirmed at 10:40 that operations had restarted, and thanked passengers for their "understanding and cooperation".

However, significant disruption are expected to persist for some time. Flights to London Gatwick, Bristol, Amsterdam and Frankfurt have been called off, with a host of additional flights facing hold-ups.

A spokesperson had previously estimated that a significant number of movements could be affected.

"Travelers are urged to contact their airlines for the current status on their specific flights," officials reiterated.

Source of the Issue

The airport attributed the full ground stop to an IT issue with its control tower systems vendor.

Passengers should still plan to verify the schedule of their flight before heading to the airport as knock-on effects are worked through.
